MGMT plays a distinct blend of electronic rock and psychedelic pop offering up a collection of seventies psychedelic sensibility and eighties new wave cool. MGMT first formed in 2002, during Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Van Wyngarden's freshman year at college. Kids, Time to Pretend and Electric Feel from their effortlessly melodic first album Oracular Spectacular lead to MGMT Grammy nominations in 2010 for Best New Artist and Best Pop Performance by a Duo. During the band’s 2013 tour dates MGMT has played new songs Alien Days, Something To Do With Prince, Mystery Disease and Your Life Is A Lie which may be part of a self titled new album in the works.
Kuroma and Black Bananas open the show.
Kuroma is a mix of psychedelic pop and glam rock. Black Bananas are a combination of bubblegum trash metal, a pinch of synth-pop and a generous helping of sloppy funk.
